Alins,

I was perplexed by all of the choices just like you.

I like that the ALA100 is portable, since I have no idea how I would travel to a remote location with one of the other models. Colin really likes his ALA100s.

So I gather for an indoor (attic) situation mounted on a rotator, one of the ALA-1530 series would be best ???? But which one.... I am interested in MW and Tropical Bands mainly but listen to the rest of the bands through 30 Mhz as well on occasions

I have a Wellbrook 1530 loop and I'm very pleased with it. Originally I remotely located it, but then it was a nuisance to null. But, the worst was FM bleedthrough - yes, several local FM stations were popping up very distorted on the AM band. So, I moved it inside. It is in my radio room, in the basement, on a stand I made for it and it works great. No FM bleed through now. I can sit in my DX chair, grab the aluminum pipe I use as part of the stand, and rotate it. It also phases very well with my LFE M601C active whip.

As far as I can tell, the next step up in the 1530 series is worth while if you are in a high RF environment - say an AM transmitter site within a few kilometres. The top step in the 1530 then adds extra gain, which would be nice in a very low RFI environment. But, in my suburban neighbourhood, more gain would just pull in more noise.

Shipping wasn't a problem - the foam pipe wrap Andy uses protected it well. Bring along a friend with a camera so you can catch the expression of the postal guy/gal as it looks like you have just received a hoola hoop!

I would have opted for the ALA100 in your environment.

It is what I use in Victoria and you can size it appropriately to the RF Environment.
