Thank you for that Wheskes - I have a Hallicrafters SX-40 from the 50's that I have restored -

It needs an RF alignment (which I can do...) but it works well on the lower 4 bands...

And yes, listening on "AM" on a tube-unit is wonderful.

My three tube receivers of note are a Hammarlund HQ-129-X, a Collins R-390A and a Stromberg Carlson for Collins R-392. I love 'em!!!

The R-390A is particularly sweet - it was a basket case and I spent a whack of time working on it, tracking down parts etc. Easily spent 150 hours plus on the thing!!! But, there is nothing that has a noise floor which can compare to it, except perhaps the R-392! And, selectivity wise it is the champ - well, except for my SDR-IQ and RX-321.
