Between the mid-seventies and the mid-eighties, my shortwave radio dial was lined with the voices of Ian McFarland, Bob Zanotti, Dick Speekman, Tom Meyer, Bob Thooman and others.
A couple of these men, like Dick Speekman and Eddie Startz are gone. Many, like Ian, the two Bob's, Tom and Kim Elliot - are very much still with us. New voices include Jeff White and Keith Perron (of the new Happy Station).
In our latest CD Project (Series - 3) Yesterday and Today, we look at 20 years in SW Broadcasting, what it was like in the heady days of the 70's and 80's - and where we are now.
It has been with great pleasure, pride and joy to be in the middle of a series of online forums, skype roundtables and personal conversations with some of the history makers - of the last 20 years of SW Radio.
Shortly we will be unfurling our latest audio offering on a 2-CD set with some surprises.
Stay tuned for regular updates and sound bytes over the next week. We are thinking that the finished and edited sessions (all recorded now) will be ready to ship in June. If you are intersted in this series, by all means send an e-mail to Ian - if not to me. Ian's e-mail (limited offer here folks!) is marbian AT -- Shaw -- DOT. -- CA -- Ian is very pumped about this project, the proceeds of which will be going to his local food bank in Duncan British Columbia. If you do not feel up to sending me an encouraging e-mail, by all means send one to Ian.
So far we have had about 3 or 4 e-mail asking us to "pre-register" a copy of the CD set. Not a great response yet - but not to worry. I am thinking of pressing about 250 (2-CD) sets of the project - all numbered - and autographed by none other than Ian McFarland + we will be including an access code for exclusive downloads and features.
Today (June 2, 2009) I held in my hand, CD Number One of the 2-CD set and listened to it in, what I consider, the critical listening environment - the in-car stereo.
And I loved it!
Yes. I am a little biased.
Updates will be coming fast and furious now.
